We discuss how heterogeneously integrated membrane laser diodes can be designed to give very high direct modulation bandwidths. Their membrane structure allows high optical confinement as well as low parasitic capacitance.
Moreover, one can make use of the very low loss of SOI waveguides and of very efficient tapers to couple the membrane lasers to well-defined, low-loss external cavities and one can thus exploit the external cavity resonance in the modulation response.

In this paper, a design strategy using periodic dielectric, metallic, or composite Photonic Band Gap (PBG) structure is proposed for X-band and Ku-band (11.13 GHz to 13.88 GHz). It is…
This paper proposes an algorithm called MACH for coding a hierarchical category structure to enable prefix matching between a publication and a subscription. Compared to fixed-length coding, the MACH algorithm…
Broadband spectrum is observed in 1060nm InGaAs/GaAs thyristor-lasers with two different structures PiNiN and PNiN. In this paper, we experimentally investigate and compare the performance of these two structures. The…
Locally linear embedding (LLE) is one of the most well-known manifold learning methods. As the representative linear extension of LLE, orthogonal neighborhood preserving projection (ONPP) has attracted widespread attention in…
