With the advent of HTML5, the next generation of browser-based technologies for web developers, new connectivity paradigms have arisen that will allow web developers to move beyond HTTP-based stateless transactions. However, such new features do not transition seamlessly from the desktop to mobile browsers.
Specifically, handheld devices with limited battery life can be impacted by persistent connectivity. In this work, two recent technologies (WebSockets and WebRTC) are examined with respect to power consumption. Based on this analysis, recommendations for improving battery life when using these technologies are provided.

In this paper, the transmission of an improper-complex second-order stationary data sequence is considered over a strictly band-limited frequency-selective channel. It is assumed that the transmitter employs linear modulation and…
Combining visible light communication with smart devices based on Android system will have a wide range of application scenarios in the future. In this paper two methods of different Android…
Broadband instantaneous radio frequency (RF) measurement has always been a hot research topic for its critical application in radar and electronic warfare. With the frequency of the radar goes higher…
We study lower bounds on mutual information that are achievable rates for optimal and sub-optimal hard-decision (HD) and soft-decision (SD) decoding. These rates represent the maximum amount of information we…
Using the inverse scattering method known for solving partial differential equations such as nonlinear Schrödinger equation, we analyse a fibre optic communication system which maps data on both discrete and…
Discrete multitone transmission (DMT) is a useful approach to cope with the dispersive nature of VLC indoor channels. In such environments, the dispersion occurs either due to the LED in…
In this work, we numerically study the focusing of a linearly polarized laser beam of wavelength λ = 633 nm using microcubes of heights 0.4 µm, 0.6 µm, and 0.8…
In the paper the analysis of luminescence emission in the VIS spectra range of fabricated multicomponent glasses doped with rare-earth ions and PMMA doped with dyes were presented. Up-conversion emission…
A recently introduced latent feature learning technique for time-varying dynamic phenomena analysis is the so-called slow feature analysis (SFA). SFA is a deterministic component analysis technique for multidimensional sequences that,…
