Cloud businesses need comprehensive visibility on hardware and software components, their utilization and their configuration. In addition, they need to integrate such information with their asset management systems and publicly available information such as hardware specifications. In this paper, we present an approach for cloud management and monitoring based on a semantic layer that unifies different interfaces and representations, and makes all relevant information accessible from a single point.
We show a proof-of-concept based on OpenStack and Linked Data technologies and evaluate it in terms of overhead, query execution times, and effectiveness in the data gathering phase. Our findings indicate that a semantics-based approach is indeed feasible and advantageous for providing uniform access across different cloud environments and levels.

Semantic ontology in Web of Object (WoO) creates and provides services in terms of Virtual Objects (VO) and Composite Virtual Object (CVO). Virtualizing the physical devices and resources as well…
Cloud monitoring is one important aspect for effective cloud management. Currently, cloud monitoring solutions can be classified into three groups: the ones not considering multiple layers or real time data…
Main memory is a major performance bottleneck in current chip multiprocessors. Current DRAM banks latch the last accessed row in an internal buffer, namely row buffer (RB), which allows fast…
Cavity quantum electrodynamics (cavity QED) considers the quantum mechanical interaction of emitters located in a cavity with the electromagnetic field in the cavity under circumstances where the quantized nature of…
A media streaming server can be implemented on a virtual machine for the ease of resource management. However, simply running a media streaming server on a virtual machine has two…
An tunable all-optical delay structure using stimulated Brillouin scattering slow light process is proposed. The structure uses stimulated second-order Stokes wave as signal and stimulated first-order Stokes wave as pumping…
In this paper we present the possibilities of cheap diagnostics based on optical fiber sensors and fluorescence lifetime measurements. Early diagnostics of pathological tissue changes, especially when it comes to…
Fisher linear discriminant analysis (LDA) involves within-class and between-class covariance matrices. For 2-D data such as images, regularized LDA (RLDA) can improve LDA due to the regularized eigenvalues of the…
